Technology was rapidly evolving, and the internet was the new frontier for businesses and nonprofits alike. People were eager to learn more and sought new ways to make the internet and the information super-highway work for them.
There was a coordinated effort at all levels of APTA to ensure the association had access to state-of-the-art communications systems. APTA had had internet and email capabilities for almost a year. Member response was so positive that in November 1994 the Board of Directors decided it was time to increase APTA’s and the profession’s presence on the internet and hired a consultant to help build a website. It was time to push APTA into the “computer age.”
A preliminary home page was built, and APTA debuted www.apta.org in June as it hosted the World Confederation for Physical Therapy’s 1995 Congress in Washington, D.C.
